Adisadel College: Parent express concern regarding absence of discipline and accountability for perpetrators

An anonymous concerned parent of a student attending Adisadel College in Cape Coast has recounted distressing incidents that suggest a complete breakdown of law and order within the once prestigious educational institution.

During an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, July 25, the parent revealed a series of troubling incidents that have raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of students at the school.

According to the parent, there have been several instances of bullying and physical violence among students, which have allegedly gone unchecked by the school authorities. These incidents reportedly involve older students subjecting younger ones to brutal assaults and intimidation without any intervention from the staff.

The parent expressed concern that his child and other students are living in fear due to the prevailing atmosphere of lawlessness and impunity on the campus. Attempts to bring the matter to the attention of the school management were reportedly met with indifference and denial. Shockingly, there are even reports of some students carrying cutlasses on the premises.

The parent also expressed dismay at the lack of proper disciplinary measures and accountability for the perpetrators of these acts. He highlighted that the absence of decisive action from the school has worsened the situation, creating an environment where bullying and violence appear to be tolerated.

These concerns arise in the aftermath of a viral video showing a student violently assaulting another, causing profuse bleeding below the victim’s right eye. The school’s headmaster, through the chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), released a brief statement acknowledging that the incident occurred on June 30 but was initially concealed by both the attacker and the victim. Both individuals have been sent home, with the victim expected to write his WASSCE from an external center provided by WAEC.

In response to these alarming revelations, parents and guardians of Adisadel College students are urging urgent action from the school management, the Ministry of Education, and relevant authorities to address the deteriorating situation. They are demanding a comprehensive review of the school’s policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
