The Minerals Commission scheduled to appear before Parliament’s Assurances Committee

The Assurances Committee of Parliament has instructed Mr. Martin Kwaku Ayisi, Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, to provide information discussed during his appearance before the Committee on Monday.

In a statement signed by Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, Head of the Governance Cluster Committee on Assurances, the requested information will assist the Committee in preparing its report.

The Committee seeks a reconciliation of inconsistent data regarding mining licenses, including a detailed breakdown that lists all companies, the locations of their concessions, and the status of their licenses.

They also require data on licenses that have not been ratified by Parliament, a list of newly issued and renewed licenses, and a categorization of Mineral Rights granted by the Commission.

Furthermore, the Committee requests details on the number of licenses granted under LI 2462 with presidential approval, evidence of sufficient mining inspectors, and reports on the Kandema and Funbisi Resettlement. Additionally, they seek comprehensive information on revoked licenses and the reasons for those revocations.

The Committee also asks for a list of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who have been granted mining concessions, beyond those previously mentioned.

All requested information must be submitted to the Secretariat by Monday, October 14, 2024.
