A church in Uganda has set the Guinness World Record for the longest applause after its member’s clapped non-stop for more than three hours.

“The congregation clapped for a total of three hours and 16 minutes, maintaining an average sound level of 88.5 dB. For the attempt to be valid, they had to remain above 80 dB for the entire duration,” Guinness World Records said in a statement.

The Phaneroo Ministries church hosted the “Clap For Jesus” event  on July 30 at a hall in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, to mark the church’s ninth anniversary.

According to Grace Lubega, the church’s leader, the goal of the celebration was to bring people together in thanksgiving and celebration.

The 926 participants had to clap continuously, and those who stopped were removed by the stewards.

The national basketball governing body and Uganda’s standards agency sent observers to monitor the event which was livestreamed.

The group beat the previous benchmark of two hours and five minutes, which was set by Clark Stevens and The Festival of Awesomeness in the United Kingdom in 2019.
