2021 Best Youth Farmer Shares Prospect On Farming

Fuseini Idrissu was adjudged the Best Youth Farmer by the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) during the 2021 Farmer’s Day.

He said, farming is lucrative but challenges surrounding it make it unattractive to young people.

Spice 91.9 as part of making the venture attractive to the youth has dedicated the month of June to delve into the agric sector.

Fuseini recounted some challenges such as cost of fertilizers, cost of labour, lack of irrigational systems and amongst others.

For him, unwillingness on the part of financial houses to grant loans to support their work.

” I was turned down by a financial bank , when I needed support. They kept tossing me back and forth until I gave up on them.” he said.

He revealed that friends and family help him with funds to carry on to this stage.

Fuseini has 9 acres of maize plantation, 6 acres of okro, 9 acres of cabbage and 25 acres of rubber plantation to his credit.

According to him, his family depends on him for survival and that makes him strive to achieve greater feat.

He disclosed that sometimes, he gets robbed off his farming equipments such as irrigation pumps and so on.

He urged the youth to venture into agric because it is the new norm and the way to self employment.

Fuseini called on stakeholders and the government to establish irrigation systems to aid the work of farmers across the country.
