World Wild Life Day: Wild Life Division marks the Day with Exhibition

As Ghana joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Wildlife Day which falls on March 3, the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission as part of the celebration is holding an exhibition at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU).

This year’s celebration is themed; “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”.

The theme seeks to raise awareness of the critically endangered species of flora and fauna in our ecosystems, with a view to generating and implementing workable solutions to conserve them.

In an interview with the Western Regional Manager of the Wild Life Division, Enoch Amosa Ashie revealed that Ghana has exported about 279,532 species of wild animals which includes snakes, tortoise, frogs and others.

He defended that such animals are exported for research purposes and is being regulated by the Wild Life Division, adding that for the past five years, Ghana’s exportation of wild life has yielded an amount of $185million dollars.

He hinted on plans made by the Ministry to create a zoo in three regions including Takoradi.

Tracy Lydia Boadi, a Tourism Officer of the Division noted that there is going to be an exhibition of some wildlife for the public view.

The celebration runs from March 3 to March 7 in a bid to mark the day with engagement of stakeholders coupled with exhibition.

The general public is entreated to be a part of the event as Wild Life Day is observed.
