GHA workers to launch indefinite strike over National Roads Act

strike

Ghana’s road infrastructure projects are expected to face significant delays as workers from the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) begin an indefinite strike starting Tuesday, November 12.

This move comes in response to the government’s refusal to suspend the implementation of the contentious National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118).

Central to the workers’ grievances is a demand for the dismissal of two senior officials: Ing. I.K. Mensah, the Chairman of the GHA Board, and Ing. Collins B. Donkor, the Chief Executive Officer of the newly established National Roads Authority (NRA).

The employees accuse these officials of making decisions that they believe could undermine the integrity of the country’s roads sector.

The strike follows a previous petition sent to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in which workers requested broader consultations before enforcing the new Act.

They argue that the Act, if implemented without adequate stakeholder input, could adversely affect ongoing projects and the general management of Ghana’s road infrastructure.
