The intense three-day vetting process for New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirants in the Western Region has reached its conclusion. A total of twenty-five aspirants from nine constituencies faced the regional vetting committee led by Chairman Lawyer Frank Davis.
Regional NPP Secretary, Oketekyere Amankwa Afrifa, addressed the media post the final day, stating, “I can say that we’ve had a successful three-days vetting of 25 aspirants who want to contest in 9 constituencies. All the aspirants who presented themselves proved beyond reasonable doubts that they are true party people, have worked for the party, and are fit to contest for MP-ship in their various constituencies.”
Mr Amankwa Afrifa highlighted that none of the aspirants were disqualified, emphasizing their fitness based on party requirements. He also issued a caution to all aspirants, urging them to maintain a respectful campaigning tone.
“We’ve cautioned them that they should watch their campaigning -this is not the time for anyone to say anything untoward. They should watch their people too because we want to have a very smooth reconciliation after 27th January, so anything out of order will make it very hard for us,” he cautioned.
“All of them proved that they can run their campaign independent of the support of the party in the region. So, we are expecting all of them to move ahead with their campaigns, and we wish all of them well in the Western Region,” he added.
On the third day, nine aspirants from Mpohor and Shama constituencies underwent vetting.
In Mpohor, incumbent MP John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie (1st-term MP) secured the second position, his predecessor Alex Kofi Agyekum (immediate past 2-term MP) claimed the first position, and Philip Asirifi Cobbina took the third position after vetting and balloting.
At Shama constituency, incumbent MP Samuel Erickson Abakah ESQ (1st-term MP) obtained the third position, Joseph Amoah ESQ (Former DCE) secured the second, and Isaac Kwamena Afful (Regional Patron) clinched the first position after vetting and balloting.
