The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is entreating all transport operators to stick to the old fares.
This decision comes after a meeting with the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, and the Minister of Transport, Kwaku O. Asiamah, to decide on improving transport fares.
“We are urging all drivers to maintain the old fares for now until the new fares are approved and implemented.”
Speaking to Spice FM, Adzekyee Mu Nsem host Ampem Darko, the Public Relations Officer for GPRTU, Abass Imoro, indicated that the tax components on fuel are having an untold impact on commercial drivers.
He says GPRTU has been directed to present a letter that outlines its plans for implementing the new fares.
He proposed a 10 pesewa drop in a litre of fuel.
Mr. Imoro called for the implementation of the Emissions Levy Bill, which imposes an annual fee of 100 cedis on all owners of petrol and diesel cars, starting in January 2024.
