Paris: Two intoxicated US tourists ‘trapped’ overnight in Eiffel Tower

Two American men were found on Monday after having spent a drunken night atop the Eiffel Tower, the management of the monument informed the media on Wednesday.

The two men were “allegedly trapped there due to their excessive alcohol consumption,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said. They had tickets for Sunday night viewing of the renowned iron tower in Paris.

According to the prosecutor’s office and SETE (Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel), the site’s operator, the tourists were discovered asleep early on Monday morning by Eiffel Tower security personnel making their rounds prior to the monument’s opening.

The tourists were then “quickly removed” and given to Paris police, SETE said in a statement. Despite acknowledging that the two men posed “no threat,” the operator stated that SETE would file charges for the intrusion.

The Paris prosecutor’s office added  “as no damage was found, the fine for trespassing on a historic or cultural site was dismissed”.

The tower opened late on Monday due to the men’s overnight stay, SETE reported.
