Polio Immunization Exercise to Begin September 1st, 2022

The Effia Kwesimintsim Health Directorate is set to begin a vaccination exercise tomorrow , September 1 to Sunday September 4.

The exercise is to help boost the immune system of children against the polio virus.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Municipal Health Director, Madam Joyce Bagina says, the exercise which will be undertaken from house to house will be solely based on oral polio vaccine (OPV) method.

Madam Joyce Bagina attributed the high prevalence of polio in the country to low immunization coverage in children under five years and poor sanitation.

According to her, EKMA is expecting to immunize 62, 585 children in the Municipality.

In a related development, the Western Regional Public Health Promotion Officer, Daniel Bomfey, in an interview with the media, noted that the immunization exercise will be carries out in all fourteen district of the region.

Trained nurses, he says, have been designated to assist with the immunization exercise.
