The Mayor of Sekondi – Takoradi, Mr Abdul Mumin Issah has instructed Transport Operators including Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) to vacate the premises of the Bus Terminal in Takoradi.
This comes after the transport unions, this morning, embarked on a sit-down strike to register their displeasure at Bimbimsala Transport Cooperative Union to join them at the Bus Terminal.
Mr Mumin said, the Assembly is going to work to ensure the matter is resolved amicably.
” Every operator should cease it operations at this place until the case is amicably settled. This is the decision of the Assembly for now. This is an order that every operator should cease operating from here until we settle the case amicably,” He stated.
Reacting to the directive, the President of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Joseph Simmons Cudjoe described the directive as unfortunate and accepted that the Union will adhere to the order given.
” We were looking forward to the Assembly sacking Bimbimsala, it is however surprising to know that Metro Mass and the other Unions have been asked to vacate the station. It is sad though but he’s our superior and we can’t flout his orders.
We await their findings within the next two days. The Bimbimsala Cooperative is torn in the flesh of GPRTU, and that is the reason for our action today. If they agree for Bimbimsala to join us to work, we won’t have anything to say but for the sake of peace to prevail.
We were working in peace before he decided to join us. He charged 82 cedis when he was at Aben b3bom but he moved here, he’s charging 75 cedis.
He’s just problematic and that is why we were against him joining us here, for now, we will adhere to the directive of the Mayor.”
