The Public Relations Officer at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Christian Baidoo has bemoaned the poor state of security at the Regional Hospital.
According to him, though it’s the hospital’s mandate to provide health care to its clients in a safe environment but the state of security at the health facility curretly is nothing to write home about.
In an exclusive interview with Kwame Offei on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice 91.9, Mr. Baidoo recounted of an incident where a patient was robbed of a sum of GH¢1,000 by an unknown person.
He also added that there have been issues of abscondments where clients do not pay for services rendered to them. Such practices he said, causes financial loss to the hospital.
“People run away after receiving health care and do not pay for the services given to them. There was an instance where, someone from Sekondi absconded after receiving 6 cylinders of oxygen from the hospital. The cost is being borne by the hospital which is very bad.”
According to Christian Baidoo, even though the government has provided the facility with four security personnel, it is inadequate looking at vast nature of the facility .
He mentioned that “management have employed some people in addition to those employed by the government yet payment of these personnel through the internally generated funds could sometimes be a challenge.
It is among some of these conditions that have made the security situation at the facility an attractive hub for thieves.
He was of the believe that the narrative could be changed with support from individuals and benevolent organizations.
Mr. Christian Baidoo also called on authorities to support the hospital to fulfill its mandate in delivering quality health care for clients in the region.
Meanwhile Dr Nana Esi Gaisie added that the facility had begun installing CCTV cameras to curb the menance.
Dr Gaisie further called on stakeholders and the general public to take advantage of the Open Day scheduled on December 9 to acquaint themselves with the staff and management of the hospital as well as take part in blood donation, screening of cervical cancer, prostate cancer, ENT and free OPD consultation.
