Occupy Ghana, Pressure Group has called for an amendment of the law to criminalize the making of land available for operations and the confiscation of such lands to the state.
In a news release, the group highlighted report findings that show that often it is the landowners who meet the kingpins after payment is affected to quietly agree on the other way as the criminality takes place.
OccupyGhana indicated that several of these landowners earn regular incomes from kingpins.
The fight against galamsey, they said is to be taken more directly to landowners because without the land, there will be no galamsey.
OccupyGhana maintains that the law provides on which galamsey can be operated and such lands should be treated as patent properties.
The law must give the state the power to confiscate all such lands just like any other patent property.
OccupyGhana, urges President Akuffo Addo to lead the charge not just for the amendment but for the enforcement of the law when it is passed.
