Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta region, has reacted to the Supreme Court judgment against his colleague James Gyakye Quayson MP of Assin North.

Mr. Quayson’s candidacy was nullified in July 2021 by the Cape Coast High Court, which concluded he owed loyalty to Canada while completing his nomination documents to contest the polls.

A resident of the constituency, Michael Ankomah Nimfah, who filed the election petition in January 2022, has launched a new case before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court declared yesterday, by a vote of 5-2, that James Gyakye Quayson, MP of Assin North, can no longer conduct official parliamentary duties until the substantive case is resolved.

In response to this, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Member of Parliament for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a message to the ruling party by stating that they are ready to confront them in the by-election.

He reminded his fellow NDC members of parliament that this episode would teach them a lesson, especially in dealing with the three NPP absentee MPs, especially when we have a much stronger and unassailable constitutional foundation to succeed.

He Wrote;

If there is one thing you have to credit President Akufo-Addo and his coterie— it’s their killer instinct. They are determined to have a by-election in Assin North and absolutely nothing must get in their way. I hope this informs my own party’s conduct from hence, particularly in how we deal with the 3 NPP absentee MPs especially when comparatively we have a much stronger and irrefutable constitutional basis to succeed. When a very unpopular government cannot be bothered about the people of SALL but is doing everything under the sun to confirm it’s unpopularity in one by-election, you help give them 4 by-elections instead of conceding to 1. Let the by-elections begin. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa
