Educationist Backs Call For The Revocation Of The Appointment Of Dr Eric Nkansah
The National Labour Commission (NLC) as part of measures to help resolve strike action by teachers has called for a meeting with the heads of the three unions.
According to the invitation, the Commission also advised the striking teachers to suspend the strike.
The invitation was after the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations sought the Commission’s intervention in the strike, which is in protest of the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.
An Educationist and Former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Kweku Oduro in a media engagement says, the agitations on the education front will affect the future of children and must be avoided.
He called on the President to consider the future of the 8 million school children who have been affected by the strike and rescind his decision.
“It’s unfortunate this strike is affecting students. Why should, just because of one person 8 million students suffer? ,” He queried.
The Professor wondered why are all appeals going to the teacher Unions and not the Minister of Education.
He however called on the Minister of Education to advise the President to rescind his decision on Dr. Nkansah’s appointment.
The three unions on strike are the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT).
The unions have been engaging with the government since the strike began, but the meetings have been inconclusive.
