Economists Fear Government Restructuring May Lead To Economic Chaos

Economist and Dean of the University of Cape Coast Business School, Prof John Gatsi says government restructuring means will bring some form of financial chaos.

His comment comes after some analysts are predicting that pensions under the local banking industry may be affected when the government undertakes restructuring as a condition for reaching a deal with the IMF.

The Ministry of Finance started formal takes with the Fund on Monday, September, 26, 2022 and announced that the IMF delegations are undertaking a comprehensive debt sustainability analysis of the country.

Prof Gatsi said the repercussions of debt restructuring measure will be borne by citizens.

He further called for transparency, engagement and accountability on the part of government even as it continues to engage the Fund.

Meanwhile, the Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Dr John Kwakye asked the government to design a financial program which will not throw the country’s financial projections out of gear.
