MP Encourages Youth To Disregard Negative Narrative About Agriculture

The Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency, Prince Hamid Armah, has expressed concern about the long-held negative misconceptions about agriculture in the country.

According to the legislator, this notion discourages young people from venturing into agriculture.

People rather, he said, see agriculture as a form of punishment but not a lucrative business.

He made this statement at the 2023 District Farmers’ Day held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Apremedo.

He revealed this support to the farmers over the years.

“There has been a long-held negative narrative about agriculture. If you recall, weeding used to be a form of punishment for students in secondary school. There is this negative understanding that getting into agriculture is a punishment.

I think this, narrative is being changed, to the extent that we are seeing young people going into agriculture.

I want to encourage more people to go into it. I have been donating to deserving winners over the year.”

For this part, the Director of Agriculture at EKMA, Ebo Nketsia Jr., speaking on the theme Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience,” entreated the farmers to leverage technologies to ensure food security.

“The Department of Agriculture, EKMA, through our able technical officers has and continues to train our farmers on several improved technologies that have seen significant results in the overall production of our farmers in the Municipality.

It is worth knowing that the introduction of these smart technologies has also seen the creation of some jobs as well.”
