Nigeria: Election tribunal to decide Tinubu’s fate as president
Nigeria’s election tribunal is scheduled to rule on appeals of the results of the presidential election in February.
The victory of Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress, is disputed by his two main opponents.
Due to alleged irregularities, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar are requesting that the court declare the election invalid.
The tribunal has the authority to declare the election invalid and order a new election; however, that decision could be appealed in a higher court.
Its decision could have far-reaching implications for future elections in Africa’s most populous democracy.
However, since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule almost a quarter of a century ago, no presidential election result has been overturned.
