Disregard Claims Of The Current State Of Ankobra River – Assembly-Member For Asanta Ankobra Warns
The Assembly member for Asanta, Ankobra in the Ellembelle District, Isaac Mokeh Cojo, is urging the public to disregard claims that the downstream portion of River Ankobra has improved.
It would be recalled that the Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister, George Mireku Duker,
some days ago during a visit to the area, credited the clearing state of the river to the government’s regulatory and monitoring agencies’ efforts, and said the situation is encouraging, and therefore the Ministry will work to see the same improvement with other river bodies.
However, speaking in an interview with the media, the assembly man revealed that each time it rains the color of the river changes.
He also added that, he did not hear of the ministers visit neither did he meet with him and is still wondering where the minister had the information from.
“Images are circulating, that say the river is somehow clean. The sea sometimes pushes away the polluted water making it look a bit cleaner.
It’s not true that the turbidity of the water has reduced. I learnt the minister visited the area and I was expecting to see him here
I don’t know where they got those images of the river from. It’s never true of what is being said about the current state. I am the Assemblyman here, and I’m saying that the color of the water hasn’t changed as being reported,” He said.
