Sek/Tadi: Teachers Call On Union Leaders To Prioritize Welfare of Teachers As World Mark Teachers Day Today
As Ghana joins the rest of the world to commemorate Teacher’s Day, some teachers in the Metropolis have shared some they face in their occupation.
On World Teachers Day, the services of teachers and their contributions to education are acknowledged and their role and importance for the development of students and societies are appreciated.
Teacher’s Day is marked this year under the theme; The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.
In an interview with Spice FM, The Head Teacher of Aboadze Catholic Basic School, Mr Emmanuel Mark Ackon says, stressed that the conditions of service of teachers need to be reviewed to complement the efforts of teachers.
He expressed disappointment in the leaders of the various Teacher Unions to implement proper policies to foresee the welfare of teachers.
” Our welfare as teachers is very serious, I am becoming disappointed in our unions, a teacher shouldn’t be sad in this country because we belong to a union that serves as a pressure group which must take care of our needs.
We have a population of 30.8million as of the 2021 Population Census.
Out of that numbers, teachers on government payrolls are not up to 700,000 teachers and education workers are just about 380 thousand. Can’t we have a teachers’ bank where if a teacher needs a loan they can easily have access to the funds just like other financial institutions to do with loans within a few minutes or probably hours?
