Electricity Company of Ghana To Announce New Tariffs Soon

The Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Ishmael Ackah has disclosed an adjustment on tariffs soon.

According to him, an effective date is not been concluded yet for the announcement of the adjustment in tariffs and has thus, declined to mention the percentage increment.

Mr Ackah says the Commission is aware of the economic challenges consumers are facing, assuring them that the adjustment will be friendly.

He believes that the adjustment will benefit consumers in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).

” I think this year’s tariff is the most business friendly tariff we’ve had especially for hairdressers, barbers, for those in the Small and Medium Scale businesses like the welders, vulcanizers. For the first time, they are going to pay quite relatively lower tariffs compared to the residential sector,” Mr Ackah noted.

He said this is the first time his outfit is implementing the Legislative Instruction (L.I) of which the utility companies have been briefed on the punishment and rewards to it.

Mr Ackah said all the companies have a responsibility as well as the PURC, and that any company which flaunts it would be punished .
