STMA: Award Prize of 2021 Best Female Farmer Missing
The 2021 Best Female Farmer, Madam Vida Hagan reveals that her award was not presented to her during the Farmers Day Celebration.
Madam Vida Hagan is a farmer who has coconut plantation on a 14-acres of land, 4 -acres of cassava, 2 – acres of maize and also rears herds of goats and sheep at Mampong, a community located in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA).
Madam Hagan narrated her situation to Spice 91.9 FM which made her missed her award prize in last year’s Farmer’s Day Celebration organized by the STMA.
” My sister was demised so I had to go for the funeral and that made it impossible for me to be present at the Farmers’ Day Celebration. No one stood in my place to take the award on my behalf, and I also did not follow up on it. The agric extension officer did not call to inform me about the award, and I thought maybe it would be presented to me in the following year.
I was later informed by a colleague farmer that my name was mentioned severally to come for the award but because I wasn’t present no one collected it for me. Since she did not know I bear the name Vida Hagan, there was nothing she could do, she narrated.
Reacting to the issue, the Agriculture Director at Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) Daniel Asiemenu said, he does not know of such an issue adding that the woman never reported to him.
“I’m surprised about this development because all the award winners came to collect their prizes. Farmers are informed about three days before the main event, this is coming as a surprise to me.” He said.
He assured to get to inquire into the matter to ascertain the truth in the issue.
