Lawyer Tanko accuses DStv of taking an unyielding stance with “hidden threats”

Legal practitioner and communication analyst Zakaria Tanko Musah has criticized DStv’s response to the Communications Minister’s call for a 30% reduction in subscription fees, describing it as laced with “hidden threats” and reflective of a clearly “entrenched position.”
Mr. Musah said MultiChoice’s response to the proposal by Mr. Samuel Nartey George was not only disappointing in tone and framing, but also appeared to issue subtle warnings—both to its employees and the wider public.
He pointed out that parts of DStv’s statement—particularly those suggesting the proposed fee reduction could impact customer choice, service quality, and employee livelihoods—could be interpreted as veiled threats. “Who are they addressing when they say it could affect your livelihood? That’s clearly aimed at their workers. It sounds like a subtle warning,” he remarked.
