NACOC hands over seized $1.7 million gold bars to Ghana Gold Board

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has formally transferred 17 gold bars, valued at $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) during a handover ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.
The gold was intercepted at the Paga Border Post by officers from NACOC’s Upper East Regional Command. Two Burkinabe nationals were apprehended while attempting to smuggle the gold out of Ghana and have since been charged with offences related to the illegal transportation and trade of gold.

At the ceremony, Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting GoldBod in safeguarding the nation’s gold resources.
The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, thanked NACOC for its swift action and called for stronger collaboration between security agencies to fight illegal gold activities.
Also present at the ceremony were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan, the Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, and other top officials from NACOC and GoldBod.
