Minority challenges Finance Minister’s claims on reserves and cedi stability

The Minority in Parliament has pushed back against assertions made by the Finance Minister during the mid-year budget review, particularly concerning Ghana’s foreign exchange reserves and the performance of the current account.
Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) today, the Minority raised doubts about the government’s portrayal of currency stability, pointing to persistent dollar shortages as a clear contradiction of the Finance Minister’s and the Bank of Ghana Governor’s claims that dollar availability is sufficient.
“While the Minister may assert that ‘cedi no apicki’, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The ongoing dollar shortages and continued interventions by the Bank of Ghana suggest deeper issues,” the Minority stated. Echoing a previous remark by MP Isaac Adongo, they added: “The cedi may not be picking up, but as Adongo aptly put it, ‘Abochi get the dollar.’”
