Man retracts ‘Igbo Kingdom’ claims, issues apology – Foreign Affairs Minister

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, the individual seen in a viral video claiming intentions to establish an Igbo Kingdom in Ghana, has officially apologized and renounced the idea.
According to the Minister, during a recent meeting, Mr. Ihenetu clarified that the video in question was part of an old interview recorded in 2013, which he now deeply regrets.
He affirmed that he has completely abandoned any such plans and confirmed that he has not acquired any land in Ghana for the purpose of creating an Igbo Kingdom. Mr. Ihenetu offered a sincere apology to the President, the Government, traditional authorities, and the people of Ghana for any confusion or unrest the video may have caused.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs took the opportunity to underscore Ghana’s longstanding reputation for peaceful coexistence and its welcoming stance toward foreigners, particularly fellow Africans and people of African descent.
He emphasized that while Ghana remains an open and hospitable nation, all visitors and residents are expected to respect the country’s laws, traditions, and cultural values, and to avoid making statements or engaging in actions that could be perceived as divisive or unlawful.
Mr. Ablakwa appealed for calm and urged the public to be mindful of the deep-rooted and historic relationship between Ghana and Nigeria. He called on all Ghanaians to exercise restraint in their commentary, cautioning against narratives that could fuel xenophobic sentiments.
“Let us uphold the spirit of African unity,” the Minister stated, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to peaceful coexistence and the advancement of Pan-African solidarity and cooperation.
