President John Dramani Mahama has announced the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances and fuel allocations to all political appointees as part of new government cost-cutting measures.
According to a statement issued and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communication, the move is aimed at reducing government expenditure and redirecting public funds into priority areas.
The directive is part of a broader effort to curb spending amid economic challenges.
President Mahama emphasised the importance of leadership setting an example by sharing in the sacrifices being asked of ordinary citizens.
The cancellation of fuel benefits follows earlier steps to reduce the size of the government, including appointing fewer ministers and staff at the Presidential Office.
Other cost-saving actions already implemented include discontinuing satellite TV subscriptions for government offices, including those at the Presidency.
