Sam George presses for unambiguous position on Ghana’s LGBTQ+ stand

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has sharply criticized Ghana’s recent decision to abstain from a United Nations vote on LGBTQ+ rights, describing it as a contradiction of the country’s declared values and constitutional principles.

In a Facebook post on July 10, 2025, Mr. George stated, “I cannot however in good conscience understand the decision to abstain in the subsequent vote. That vote is in conflict with Ghana’s espoused position and my conscience. We MUST at all times make our position clear and unambiguous.”

A prominent voice in Ghana’s ongoing debate on LGBTQ+ issues, the MP has consistently called on government officials to adopt clear and decisive stances in international forums.

He reaffirmed his unwavering stance on LGBTQ+ rights and urged government officials to articulate Ghana’s position clearly and decisively. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the innocence of Ghanaian children and preserving the nation’s cultural values.

“The innocence of Ghanaian children and the sanctity of our values cannot be traded for any considerations. Let truth, our conscience, and principles be our guiding light,” his post read in part.
