Sekondi Sports Stadium renovation: NSA Boss expresses dissatisfaction with level of work

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has expressed his dissatisfaction with the level of work at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
For over a decade, football connoisseurs and key stakeholders in the Western Region have been trumpeting for the 20,000 capacity stadium to be renovated. The calls yielded a result when the erstwhile government made efforts to bring the edifice back to light five years ago.
Despite promises from the Akufo-Addo-led government to complete the stadium for use, the edifice is still in a distasteful state, with the renovation works stagged.
Speaking to Accra-based Atinka TV after his recent visit to the stadium, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah who was appointed to office three months ago, described the state of the once proud venue for the 2008 AFCON as unacceptable.
He bemoaned the stadium’s crumpled facilities, the overgrown and unusable pitch, and its general unsuitability for hosting sporting activities.
“It was beautiful when the stadium was first built, but I was sad when I visited the edifice for inspection. It was a very sad situation but we need to hold people accountable because lots of money has gone into it”, he said.
Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah also disclosed that the renovation of the stadium was contracted by the erstwhile government with funds allocated for the project.
He vowed that the contractor will be hold accountable and will demand explanations as to why the renovation has delayed.
