Minority’s request for load management timetable unnecessary—Energy Ministry Spokesperson

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has assured that the country’s current power generation capacity is sufficient to meet existing electricity demand, including during peak periods.
In a statement signed by the ministry’s spokesperson and head of communications, Mr. Richmond Rockson, the ministry addressed calls from the minority caucus in parliament, stating that power stations are generating enough electricity and, as such, there is no need to implement or publish a load management schedule.
The minority had earlier held a press conference in Parliament, urging the government to release a load management timetable to help consumers better plan amid recent power outages experienced in parts of the country.
The ministry’s statement noted that although the government inherited a severely strained distribution and transmission system, efforts have been ongoing to address and permanently resolve these challenges.
“The existing power generation capacity is adequate to meet peak demand, and as such, there is no justification for a load-shedding timetable at this time,” the statement emphasized.
It further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering reliable electricity to consumers and assured the public that technical problems and inefficiencies within the distribution network are actively being resolved.
