Western Regional Minister praises assembly for unanimous approval of 14 MMDCE nominees

The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson praised assembly members for prioritizing development over personal interests, as evident in the unanimous confirmation of all 14 MMDCE nominees.

The 14 nominees, including just two women, were all confirmed by the Municipal and Metropolitan District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Western Region, each receiving over 90% approval within the seven-day exercise.

The exercise, spanning from Wassa East District to Jomoro, included the election of Presiding Members. Notably, only two of the 14 nominees were women – Priscilla Yorke (Amenfi West) and Sophia Aubynn (Mpohor), making up just 14.29% of the total.

The confirmed MMDCEs in the Western Region are: Alhassan Ibrahim (Wassa East DCE), Paul Otis Dentu (Shama DCE), Joseph Agyekum (Ellembelle DCE), Herbert Kuah Dickson (Nzema East MCE), Fredrick Faidoo (STMA MCE), Abdul Majeed Dorkurgu (EMMA MCE), Priscilla Yorke (Amenfi West MCE), Ebenezer Cobbinah (Tarkwa Nsuaem MCE), Peter Amponsah (Amenfi Central DCE), Raymond Nana Ebbah (Amenfi East MCE), Dr. Mathew Ayee (Prestea Huni Valley MCE), Sophia Aubynn (Mpohor DCE), Ebenezer Audio (Ahanta West MCE), and Benedict Boadi (Jomoro MCE).

During their inauguration, the new MMDCEs promised to prioritize infrastructure development, improve education, and work hand-in-hand with local communities to overcome challenges and harness opportunities.

Some confirmed MMDCEs outlined their priorities, including :

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson praised the assembly members for prioritizing development over their differences.

“The exercise has been highly successful. I commend assembly members for their support and cooperation in electing Presiding Members and confirming nominees. Their ability to put aside differences and prioritize development is truly commendable,” he said.

The Jomoro assembly was shrouded in grief with the assembly members in black attire during the confirmation of the President’s nominee.
The assembly’s somber mood was a tribute to Francis Armoh and Ransford Nana Otuo Darko, two colleagues who had lost their lives in a fatal car crash just days prior. They represented the Alaboale and Elubo West electoral areas, respectively, within the constituency led by MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey.

“Today marks not just the election of a leader, but a renewed commitment to progress. Let’s unite with a shared vision, working together in hope for a brighter future in Jomoro. Together, we can make it even brighter.” She added.
