FDA warns public against consumption of dangerous alcoholic beverages containing cannabis

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a stern warning to the public against consuming two alcoholic beverages Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur and Jupiter 1990 citing serious health risks.

In an official statement, the FDA revealed that both products contain extracts of marijuana (cannabis) and are not registered with the Authority. The drinks are suspected to be illegally manufactured by Famude Catering Services, a company located in the Ashanti Region.

The FDA further clarified that while Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur was originally registered in 2022, a routine inspection in July 2023 uncovered traces of cannabis in the product. In response, the FDA took swift action: the Famude facility was shut down, its license revoked, and the case was handed over to the Suntresu District Police for further investigation and potential legal proceedings.

The FDA is urging the public to immediately refrain from consuming these products and to report any instances of sale or distribution to the nearest FDA office.

“Protecting public health is our top priority, and we will continue to take decisive action against unapproved and harmful products,” the statement emphasized.
