Essikado-Ketan MP hosts free life-changing health screening for constituents

The Member of Parliament for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has celebrated Mother’s Day in a uniquely impactful way — by organizing a free, full-day comprehensive health screening for her constituents at the forecourt of her office at the Dr. Grace Mall at Essikado.
The event, held on Monday, 19th May 2025, in collaboration with the Public Health Unit of Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, brought essential medical services directly to the people — an initiative driven by the MP’s deep concern about the financial and systemic challenges that prevent many residents from accessing proper healthcare.

The screening covered a wide range of health services, including:
- Blood Pressure (BP) Checks
- Body Mass Index (BMI) Measurement
- Dietician Consultation
- Random & Fasting Blood Sugar (RBS/FBS) Testing
- Laboratory Testing for Various Types of Influenza (especially for those with cough or respiratory symptoms)
- Eye Screening & Free Cataract Surgeries
- Mental Health & Psychological Screening
- General Health Counseling & Referrals
In addition to diagnostics, individuals who needed spectacles and medication were provided with them free of charge, ensuring that the care extended beyond detection to real solutions.
Speaking to Beach FM, Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah emphasized that this was not a one-off political gesture but a continuation of her ongoing commitment to the well-being of her constituents.

“Today we are doing a comprehensive health screening to support the community. This initiative is rooted in empathy and service. Many of our people delay or ignore health issues due to cost, as they can’t get enough from the NHIS -the system is more of cash and carry now. One of our promises to the people is to prioritise their healthcare as well upgrade Essikado and Fiaji hospitals.”
“I have been doing such free health screenings even before the elections; but this is my first health screening exercise after the elections. My duty is to bridge that gap and bring healthcare to their doorstep — not just during campaign seasons, but every chance I get.”

“People who will need surgery will be taken to the major hospital in Cape Coast for surgery -free of charge. Everything here is free. We are not doing this for party people but for everyone. We even have people come in from Sekondi”, she added.
Some beneficiaries spoke to Beach FM on the sidelines. Mr. Arthur, a private security guard and one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude. He said, “today’s screening saved me a lot of money. The care, the medication — I would have struggled to afford all this on my own.”

Ernestina, another beneficiary, shared, “I came with an eye problem, and not only did I get screened, I got treated. I even received free medication. I’m grateful beyond words.”
This bold and thoughtful Mother’s Day celebration blended health, hope, and humanity — underscoring the MP’s belief that leadership is best measured by impact, not promises.
