Six found guilty in GES payroll fraud; OSP seizes GHS 106k

The High Court in Tamale has convicted six individuals involved in a payroll corruption scheme at the Ghana Education Service (GES) after they pleaded guilty under the Office of Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) plea bargaining process.
The convicted individuals, including school administrators, payroll officers, and accountants, admitted to unlawfully reactivating and validating salary payments for a teacher who had already left their post. The fraudulent activity led to unauthorized payments totaling GHS 86,000.
Court records show that all misappropriated funds have been recovered, with total restitution amounting to GHS 106,319.64.
The OSP has confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, with additional suspects being investigated. The office is currently overseeing six other criminal cases across Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.
An OSP spokesperson stated, “This conviction underscores our commitment to protecting public funds,” but declined to share further details about other individuals under investigation.
