MP reacts to NACOC raid in Effia Constituency

The Member of Parliament for the Effia Constituency, Lawyer Isaac Boamah Nyarko, has reacted to a recent raid carried out by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on drug hotspots in his constituency last weekend.

He described the issue of drug abuse in the constituency as worrying and in need of urgent attention.

Speaking in an interview on Beach FM’s Western Echo show, the MP said, “Even when I was just a parliamentary candidate, I visited most of the ghettos not only to ask for votes but to understand the level of drug abuse and find ways to help.

Lawyer Boamah explained that he has supported some youth with items like motorbikes to start small businesses, but warned them not to use such support to sell drugs. “I gave them a motorbike with a clear warning it must not be used to peddle drugs but for commercial use,” he said.

Lawyer Boamah also disclosed that he is working on plans to establish a rehabilitation centre to help those struggling with addiction. He added that some suspects from the raid have been sent to Accra and may be processed for court soon.

“I don’t have the full facts yet, but I support the authorities to do their work,” he noted. “I’m not a lawyer who will come and bail you out just because you’re my constituent.” He added.

He advised young people to live responsibly, saying, “If you want to smoke in private, that’s your choice, but don’t harm others or steal. That becomes a criminal matter, and the law must deal with it.”

The MP said that while unemployment is a major issue, it should not be used as an excuse for engaging in illegal activities.
