Charles Bissue reacts to OSP’s prosecution in illegal mining fraud case

Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, former Secretary to the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), has responded publicly to the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) recent decision to pursue legal action against him and Mr. Andy Thomas Owusu.
The charges relate to the high-profile “Galamsey Fraud” exposé by investigative group Tiger Eye P.I. in 2019, and include allegations of corruption and abuse of public office for personal gain.
In a press statement dated April 29, 2025, Mr. Bissue denied the accusations, stating: “I categorically assert that I have always acted in full compliance with both the legal and ethical obligations of the office I held and the laws of the Republic of Ghana.”
Mr. Bissue dismissed the allegations against him as “baseless” and vowed to vigorously defend himself through the appropriate legal channels.
He expressed support for the OSP’s decision to proceed with the case after over five years of investigations, emphasizing the need for transparency and fairness throughout the process.
Calling for the presentation of the full, unedited investigative video as evidence, Mr. Bissue stressed that Ghanaians deserve to see the “unvarnished truth and factual evidence, free from distortion.”
Acknowledging the political backdrop of the prosecution, which comes under a new administration, he voiced hope that the legal proceedings would remain impartial and grounded in fairness.
“This process must offer all parties a fair opportunity to present their evidence, with the facts assessed objectively and without bias,” he stated.
He further urged the public to withhold judgment and allow the legal process to unfold, emphasizing that justice must be guided by transparency, due process, and the rule of law.
