60% of Adwumawura roles targeted at women, youth, PWDs, and other vulnerable groups -Mahama

President John Mahama has announced that at least 60% of beneficiaries under the newly launched Adwumawura Programme will be women, persons with disabilities, unemployed youth, school dropouts, and young people from conflict-affected or disadvantaged communities.

Speaking at the launch in Kumasi on Monday, April 28, 2025, President Mahama said the initiative is designed to be inclusive and focused on uplifting the most vulnerable segments of society.

He highlighted the need to support women in male-dominated industries and young people from mining communities previously involved in illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.

“Many of our youth have brilliant ideas but lack the capital, skills, or tools to bring those ideas to life,” Mahama stated. The Adwumawura Programme aims to bridge that gap by providing access to funding, coaching, mentorship, equipment, and technology.

Each successful applicant will be paired with an experienced entrepreneur for hands-on mentorship, while 24/7 business advisory support will be available year-round to help navigate post-startup challenges.

Mahama added that businesses will be selected based on their scalability, sustainability, and job creation potential, with all applications submitted and reviewed through an independent, online process to ensure fairness.

He emphasized that the programme is fully funded under the 2025 national budget and assured the public it would not suffer from the financing setbacks that plagued previous initiatives.

President Mahama encouraged all young Ghanaians—regardless of educational background—to apply, saying the programme is open to university graduates, vocational school alumni, SHS leavers, and even those with no formal education.

“Our goal is simple,” he concluded. “To help young Ghanaians move from joblessness to entrepreneurship, creating a future of hope, dignity, and opportunity.”
