“Bring them back!” — Kennedy Agyapong calls for amnesty for Alan and Afoko to unite NPP

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership to grant amnesty to former leading members Alan Kyerematen and Paul Afoko as part of efforts to restore unity within the party.
Speaking at the Takoradi Technical University Auditorium during the launch of the NPP’s nationwide Thank You tour, Mr. Agyapong stressed that true reconciliation would be critical if the party hoped to rebuild its strength after its 2024 electoral defeat.
“With reorganisation and unity, we were able to win power again,” Agyapong noted, referencing the party’s previous comebacks. “So, I am pleading with you, let us stop the public display of support for one candidate or the other.”
He further urged the national leadership to forgive and reintegrate suspended and estranged members. “If we want to unite again as a party, I stand before the national executives to say that they should extend amnesty to Paul Afoko, Alan Kyerematen, and anybody who have been suspended, for them to come back,” he appealed.
Mr. Agyapong argued that welcoming back those who had broken away or been sidelined would significantly bolster the party’s electoral fortunes. “When we are able to do that it will serve us well. All the persons we have suspended have relatives and friends who can augment our votes as a party,” he added.
Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade Minister and senior party figure, left the NPP to form the Movement for Change after the party’s flagbearer primaries. Paul Afoko, who once served as the party’s National Chairman, was indefinitely suspended in 2015 over accusations of undermining Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 2016 presidential bid.
The call by Kennedy Agyapong signals growing pressure within the NPP to mend old wounds and rebuild trust among its broader support base.
