President Mahama appoints Capt. James Richmond Quayson as the Director of Takoradi Port

In a significant move aimed at strengthening maritime operations and boosting economic activities along Ghana’s western coast, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Captain James Richmond Quayson as the new Director of the Takoradi Port.
The announcement was made earlier today by the Office of the President, highlighting Capt. Quayson’s extensive experience in maritime logistics, port management, and naval operations a key factor in the decision.
Capt. Quayson, a seasoned maritime professional with over three decades of experience in the maritime industry, a proven track record of leadership, strategic management, and maritime labour development. Currently serving as General Manager, Special Duties at Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Headquarters.

- Maritime Operations: Extensive experience in port management, maritime safety, and environmental administration.
- Leadership: Proven track record of leadership and strategic management in various roles.
- Maritime Labour Development: Committed to developing and promoting maritime labour in Ghana.
Professional Experience:
- General Manager, Special Duties at GPHA HQ: Attends maritime-related meetings with stakeholders, external duties, and corporate management.
- Interim Committee Chairman: Responsible for operationalizing the Jamestown Fishing Harbour.
- Harbour Master/PFSO: Held positions at Ports of Tema and Takoradi, with experience in port management, safety, and security.
- Marine Pilot: Joined GPHA in 2006, with experience in marine operations and training.
Education and Certifications:
- Regional Maritime Academy/University: Pre-sea training and cadetship training.
- World Maritime University, Malmo Sweden: Master’s programme in Maritime Safety & Environmental Administration (MSEA).
