Justice Gertrude Torkornoo suspended amid ongoing probe

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has been officially suspended from office following the establishment of a prima facie case against her based on multiple misconduct petitions.

The suspension comes after three separate petitions were submitted to President John Dramani Mahama. In line with constitutional procedure, the President referred the matter to the Council of State for its advice.

The decision, made in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution and following consultations with the Council of State, was announced on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

In the meantime, President Mahama has constituted a five-member committee, as required by Article 146(6), to conduct a formal investigation into the allegations.

The committee is composed as follows:

  1. Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice of the Supreme Court – Chairman
  2. Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, Justice of the Supreme Court – Member
  3. Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General – Member
  4. Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, Ghana Armed Forces – Member
