Ghana shouldn’t delay Nuclear Power development — IPGG CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of Independent Power Generators Ghana (IPGG), Dr. Elikplim Agbetorgbor, has urged the country not to wait for existing energy challenges to be fully resolved before moving forward with nuclear power and exploring other energy sources.

Dr. Agbetorgbor emphasized the importance of accelerating efforts to expand Ghana’s generation capacity, warning that delays could hinder progress.

We are already behind schedule when it comes to adopting modern energy technologies while calling for swift and strategic action to meet future energy demands.

“My concern has to be with the speed at which we can fix the sector to enable additional investments to come in. Let me say that we are behind schedule with regard to technology. Sorry to say that today we still go after customers to pay their electricity bills. We are behind schedule. So, we have to look at how prepared we are before adding new capacity or additional generations to it.”

“Yes, the demand is growing. Development is going on day in and day out. Companies are shrinking out, and we should have the understanding that government policies or new policies that we are seeing or with the new government are very appealing to investors,”

” And we shouldn’t wait for time for these policies to be rolled out before we start; we are preparing. The time for it is now.”
