Police arrest suspect in viral machete attack incident at Anyinam

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect seen in a viral video assaulting a young man with a machete beside a fuel tanker.
The arrest was made on Tuesday, April 9, 2025, through an intelligence-led operation. The suspect, identified as Dawuda Sumaila, a driver’s mate, is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
According to the police, the violent incident took place on Friday, April 4, 2025, in Anyinam, a community in the Eastern Region.
The shocking video, which quickly spread across social media, triggered widespread public outrage and demands for immediate action.
In the footage, Sumaila is seen brandishing a machete and brutally attacking the victim in broad daylight.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring that justice is served.
