
The Member of Parliament for Shama Constituency, Emelia Arthur, has described last night’s market fire outbreak at the Lower Inchaban market as unexpected.
A visit to the incident scene, the Member of Parliament commended the fire service and other bodies for helping to douse the fire and salvaging the situation from further escalating.

According to her, those affected will receive assistance from the appropriate institution to bring back some form of relief to the victims.
“The fire service personnel did well. I received a call about the incident. When I arrived, I realized 10 shops had been affected. 7 of the shops have been burnt beyond repair, but 3 can be managed.
“It’s a sad situation. Records of those affected have been taken; we’ll see to it that they are aided.”

Madam Emelia advised against illegal electricity connections and called on the traders to make sure electrical switches are put out before closing their shops.
The public relations officer of the Western Region Fire Command and acting commander for Shama, DO 2 Emmanuel Bonney, said that about 10 out of 223 shops were burnt.
He stated that the firemen were tactical about the situation.

The shops affected, DO 2 Bonney said, contained plastics, second-hand clothing, and combustibles.
