Morocco’s health minister visits Ghana to enhance healthcare cooperation

Morocco’s Minister for Health and Social Protection, Mr. Amine Tahraoui, recently met with Ghana’s Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to share knowledge and experiences aimed at strengthening healthcare systems in both countries.
During the meeting, Mr. Tahraoui highlighted key similarities between the health sectors of Morocco and Ghana, particularly in areas such as healthcare infrastructure, human resource development, pharmaceutical advancements, and the pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He emphasized the importance of ensuring quality and accessible healthcare for all citizens, despite the challenges both nations encounter.
Mr. Amine highlighted Morocco’s progress in healthcare, noting that the country has achieved 70% health insurance coverage and is working towards achieving full coverage in the near future.
He stressed the importance of investing in healthcare systems and expressed a keen interest in collaborating with the Ghanaian government to train and integrate some of Ghana’s healthcare personnel, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening capacity building.

In response, Honourable Akandoh warmly welcomed the visit of the Moroccan Health Minister and commended Morocco’s healthcare advancements. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to improving its healthcare system through strategic partnerships and the exchange of best practices.
Mr. Akandoh highlighted Ghana’s progress in expanding healthcare access, enhancing medical training, and increasing pharmaceutical production, while acknowledging the challenges in achieving full Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He also expressed Ghana’s interest in learning from Morocco’s experience with health insurance expansion and workforce development.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of collaboration in areas such as medical training, infrastructure improvement, and pharmaceutical manufacturing to strengthen healthcare delivery in both nations.
Both ministers expressed optimism for future collaborations that would bring mutual benefits in healthcare development. They agreed to explore specific areas for cooperation, including training programs for medical professionals, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and potential investments in Ghana’s health sector.
