Energy Commission urges Ghana’s electricity sector to prioritize local resources in procurement plans

The Energy Commission has called on all entities within Ghana’s electricity sector to submit their annual procurement plans, outlining contract obligations for the supply of goods and services for the year.

Maame Yaa Akowuah Tamakloe, lead officer of the local content and local participation unit at the Energy Commission, emphasized that companies should prioritize local resources in their procurement processes.

She explained that submitting the procurement plans is part of the commission’s broader efforts to foster local participation in the energy sector.

“When it comes to the supply of goods and services, one of the requirements of the L.I is for these entities to submit to us their annual procurement plan. In their annual procurement plan, they are supposed to indicate how they intend to incorporate local content in their procurement activities. Basically, what we are saying is, what do you need for the year?

“In your sourcing, make sure that when you are selecting who should supply you; you are first considered to an indigenous Ghanaian service provider.

“So in a way, it creates businesses for them as well. And these business and service providers in the industry have attested to how the local content regulations has aided them in acquiring some of these projects from the industry.”
