W/R: 2 men arrested for robbery and extortion in Wangarakrom

The Western Central Regional Police Command has apprehended two men, Kwame Mumuni and Awal Benjamin, suspected of involvement in a robbery and extortion scheme in Wangarakrom, near Tarkwa, in the Western Region.
The suspects were arrested on March 31, 2025, following a well-coordinated, intelligence-driven operation by the police.
During the arrest, authorities recovered several items believed to have been used in the criminal activities, including an unregistered red Suzuki motorbike, military-style camouflage tops, three pairs of boots, a torchlight, a black face mask, and GH₵ 645 in cash.
Local residents, who had been living in fear due to a spate of robberies in the area, expressed relief at the arrest. “We’ve been worried about these robberies. This arrest gives us some hope that security is improving,” said a local shopkeeper.

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Police have assured the public that they will face legal action in court.
Authorities are also encouraging anyone with additional information about the suspects or related criminal activities to come forward and assist with the investigation.
