Lecturer advocates for scholarships to support female students in Technical Universities

Dr. Patrick Essien, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and an expert in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has called on the Ministry of Education to introduce scholarships for female students in technical universities.

Dr. Essien explained that such a policy would encourage more women to pursue vocational courses, helping to reduce Ghana’s unemployment rate.

He highlighted that financial constraints often prevent young women from enrolling in TVET programs, despite the increasing demand for technical skills in the job market.

He urged the Education Minister and the government to establish a scholarship scheme dedicated to female students in technical universities. He believes this initiative would not only close the gender gap in vocational education but also equip women with the skills needed to secure jobs and contribute to the nation’s development.

Dr. Essien emphasized that investing in women’s technical education is vital for creating a more inclusive workforce and fostering economic growth.
