CEO of Agric-Impact criticizes 2025 budget’s inadequate allocation for agriculture

Daniel Fahene Acquaye, the Chief Executive Officer of Agric-Impact, has expressed concerns regarding the agricultural sector’s budget allocation in the 2025 budget.

During the 2025 Budget Digest organized by PWC, he voiced that the current allocation is insufficient to support the economic transformation the government aims to achieve.

Mr. Acquaye pointed out that, from the total 279 billion cedis budget, only 1.5 billion cedis—just 0.54 percent—has been allocated to agriculture.

While he acknowledged the government’s introduction of the 13.8 billion cedis “Big Push” initiative, Mr. Acquaye raised concerns over the lack of a detailed breakdown of allocations within the initiative.

He urged a dedicated focus on agriculture as part of the “Big Push.”

“In the big push, can there be a big push for agriculture, a big push for irrigation, and a big push for post-harvest systems? Three years ago, we had the opportunity to do a study funded by the Danish Embassy. And we are looking at the post-harvest investment in selected commodities in Ghana. And we were amazed and at the same time disappointed.,”

” When we put values on our post-harvest losses, we did a study right away from Bolga up to Axim.

The post-harvest loss for yam alone was over $300,000,000 per annum.”
