President Mahama appoints new acting service chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama has implemented significant changes in the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces, appointing new acting service chiefs while awaiting consultations with the Council of State.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, President Mahama met with the outgoing service chiefs, led by General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, at the Flagstaff House. During the meeting, he expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service and emphasized his goal of leveraging the experience of the new leadership to reset and strengthen Ghana’s security framework.
These appointments mark a strategic shift in the Armed Forces’ leadership, as the government aims to enhance national defense and security operations.
The new appointees, whose roles take effect from March 24, 2025, include:
1. Brigadier General William Agyapong – Acting Chief of the Defence Staff
2. Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu – Acting Chief of Army Staff
3. Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing – Acting Chief of Naval Staff
4. Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong – Acting Chief of Air Staff
5. Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan – Acting Chief of Staff
