CDM condemns mass terminations by President Mahama

The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has sharply condemned the recent wave of mass terminations of public and civil service appointments by President John Dramani Mahama, describing the actions as unconstitutional and a threat to Ghana’s democratic principles.

In a statement released on Sunday, the CDM expressed strong disapproval of the government’s decision to dismiss senior managers at regional offices of the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, as well as employees from key institutions such as the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, and the National Health Insurance Authority.

The organization criticized the dismissals as a flagrant violation of due process, job security, and fairness in governance.

“This reckless abuse of executive power is not only legally questionable but also socially and economically harmful,” the statement read. CDM warned that these actions undermine Ghana’s constitutional framework and labor rights, setting a dangerous precedent for political victimization.

The organization further called on civil society and all concerned Ghanaians to oppose what it referred to as an “unjust abuse of executive power.”

“Today, it may be government workers, but tomorrow, it could be any Ghanaian facing political persecution. President Mahama must do the right thing: uphold the Constitution, respect labor laws, and ensure job security for all. The future of Ghana is at stake,” CDM emphasized.

The terminations have raised widespread alarm among political analysts, labor unions, and opposition parties, with critics arguing that the government’s actions violate Ghana’s Labour Act, which guarantees fair treatment for public sector employees.
